Pinewood Derby Races

Our annual Pinewood Derby is fast approaching! The excitement of the Indy 500 is coming to the Heritage Elementary School in Avon on Saturday March 19th. Racers are to start checking in at 10:00am with Races scheduled to start at 10:45am. Heritage Elementary School 35575 Detroit Rd Avon, OH 44011 The derby will test the racers creativity and craftsmanship. Racers will hand-craft their cars and enter them into the competition where they’ll be judged on design & speed. The cars will reach speeds over 300 mph as they race down the 64-foot-long, 12-foot-high track. The standard Derby cars start as a block of wood 7 inches long by 1.75 inches wide by 1.25 inches high. The block is un-sanded with grooves cut in the bottom side to accept the axles. The weight can’t exceed 5 ounces.
